Thank you for taking the time to check out my class website. I hope this helps you get to know me better and understand my expectations for my class and this school year. My name is MR. Pierce and I am a graduate of the best mathematics education program in the state, North Carolina State University! My Personal philosophy in life is that the best two ways to shape young minds in a positive manner is in the classroom and through extracurricular activity. Teaching math has always been a passion of mine because I know most students struggle with it and I want to help them succeed. Students in my class will be challenged, but will come out on top with a better understanding. as for the extracurricular portion of my philosophy, I am the JV Coach for the Union spartans Men's basketball team. I encourage everyone in my class to tryout for a team or club. I look forward to working with both students and parents throughout the school year.
Classroom Expectations:
I live by the Golden Rule, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and I expect anyone in my classroom to follow that same rule. If this can be achieved then we will have a flawless school year.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: (these materials need to be brought to class everyday)
3 inch Binder (Required by school) Loose-leaf paper Pencils (you should not use pens in my class!!) Scientific or Graphing Calculator (this is essential for completing homework)
GRADING POLICY: Math 3 Math 3 Honors 1. Tests 40% 60% 2. Quizzes 30% 20% 3. Homework/Classwork 30% 20%
THE FINAL FOR MATH 3 WILL COUNT FOR 25% OF YOUR SEMESTER GRADE.
Grades will be updated weekly on PowerSchool.
MAKE UP WORK:
Regular attendance is essential. Students will be missing something if they are absent. Success in this class requires a consistent effort on each student’s part. Homework will be assigned on a routine basis. If a student is absent for some reason, it is the responsibility of the student to gather all the information that was missed by that student.
- Tests should be made up within 1 week from the day it is given.
- Other assignments should be made up within 3 school days from the day it is given.
If the student does not make arrangements to make up assignments, a grade of “0” will be given with no exceptions.
If the student is caught cheating, an automatic grade of “0” will be given.
I am always willing to meet with students for extra help or any questions they may have.
BATHROOM:
Again, time in the classroom is vital! Students may not use the restroom within the first 15 minutes of class or within the last 15 minutes of class. Students must also leave their cell phones in class when going to the bathroom per school rules.
